Co., Prop'trs". This is a double swing version, having horizontal swing hardware on the right edge of the rear standard. Non-reversible Back. Platform is 40" long. #2 engraved on different sides. The J. Lizars company was founded in 1830 by the optician John Lizars (1810-1879) in Glasgow, Scotland. Its stereo viewers and Challenge cameras were particularly innovative, Matthew Ballantine took over the running of the company in 1882, expansion into photographic items probably date from this time and manufacture of cameras probably started around 1896. Leica Leitz 3C, IIIC Camera body and lens f 5CM Elmar S/N 418827 This is a very nice super cleanLeica Leitz 3C, IIIC Camera body and lens , The body is in very good shape no dings or dents it was bought from the originalowner The lens is in equally as good shape no damage or mold or fungus. The serial number dates the camera to 1946. I tested the camera for basic functionand it appears to be working like it should!
This lovely "J. Lancaster & Son" "Instantograph" camera is, I believe, the original model from 1882.
Made by the renowned optician and camera makers J Lancaster and Sons of Birmingham, UK.
It is made of Honduran mahogany with brass fittings.
The camera bears three enamel plaques, one has Instantograph another has "J. Lancaster & Son, Birmingham" and the third has " St. Brides Store, 86, Fleet Street, E.C., London Agents", the lettering is still clear and legible, although the retail plaque has a little damage.
There are no major holes or splits to the plum coloured leather square bellows,
